Here's a snaphot of what we've been up to…

Point of Grace Vacation Bible School

During our Mission Trip to Kenya in August 2013, we planned to visit Point of Grace Academy about a half hour drive out of Kisumu. For some of our team, this was our second visit. Point of Grace Academy was started by Dennis and Lorna Meeker in response to a need they saw while living in Nairobi. As Pastors of a Church on the edge of the slums of Kibera they realized orphaned children would thrive in a rural setting. Near the shore of Lake Victoria they founded the Academy. At present 300 children from babies to teens call Lorna Mom. Funded solely by donations, Dennis and Lorna have built a school and dorms for their children. In 2011 we constructed a playground and lead a Vacation Bible School. The playground still stands but now in the shadow of a 3 story school that wasn't there 2 years ago. This year with our Kenyan partners another Vacation Bible School was run, Tether Ball poles were installed, a Computer Lab was set up and another Sea Container full of clothing, sports equipment, sewing machines and bikes was shared..

Channels of Grace Carnival

Channels of Grace Academy was also a place for us to return to. In the same manner as Dennis and Lorna, Catherine runs an orphanage/academy (190 kids) with no government funding. Catherine and her kids live day to day not knowing where the next donation will come from that will provide food and money to pay her teachers. In just a few days we were able to paint 8 classrooms, repair playground equipment and treat the kids to a carnival. They in turn treated us to worship songs, dance and drama presentations. Some of her "kids" are now University students who return to teach and give back to the woman who gave them so much. Dennis, Lorna and Catherine are truly Giggin for God.
